What do we do when things in our world are crashing out of control? Do we panic? Do we quit? Do we hide? Seems good for most, but others get up and make new plans and fight on regardless of the uncertain outcome.
The writer of proverbs teaches us to, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Pr. 3:5–6 ESV) However what do we do when God’s ways do not make sense to us? What if we simply rested in the arms of God’s wonderful grace all while trusting Him? What if we simply said to ourselves “get over it” and we decided to follow Him anyway? We must remember His ways are not our ways. So, when the sum of our known experiences is telling us to run or fight, the LORD is calling us to rest and trust Him over our feelings. Isaiah wrote, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Is 55:8–9 ESV)
As you and I are often overwhelmed by feelings of dread or fear, God calls us to take a stand and face the uncertainty of the future in His protective embrace knowing that nothing can take us away from the love of Christ and that we are more that conquerors through Him. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Ro 8:37–39 ESV)
Are you persuaded that you have the victory that is promised in Jesus our Lord? I am and if you are then rest, because God has you!
