Leviticus 6:1-30
Sin is never merely private. It damages our fellowship with God and affects those around us. A lie breaks trust, theft causes loss, and dishonesty wounds relationships. In Leviticus 6, God teaches His people that genuine repentance involves more than admitting wrongdoing; it also includes taking responsibility and making things right wherever possible.
The guilty person was commanded to restore what had been taken, add to it, and then bring a trespass offering to the Lord. Restitution addressed the wrong done to a neighbor, while the sacrifice addressed the person’s guilt before God. Both were necessary because a person cannot knowingly remain at odds with others while claiming to be right with God.
This passage ultimately points us to Jesus Christ, our perfect sacrifice and ever-living High Priest. Through Him, forgiveness and reconciliation with God are available. That grace then transforms how we treat others, prompting us to confess our wrongs, repair the damage we have caused, and pursue peace. God’s purpose is not merely to remove our guilt but to restore us to Himself, to one another, and to a life of worship within His community.
