Romans 7:1-25

There are few battles more exhausting than the one no one else can see. Every follower of Christ knows what it is like to love God, to desire what is right, and yet still wrestle with the pull of the flesh. We celebrate our salvation, but we also grieve our failures. We rejoice in God’s grace, yet we grow weary of the conflict raging within us.
Romans 7 pulls back the curtain on that hidden battle. Paul reminds us that the Christian life is not the absence of conflict but the presence of a new one. Before Christ, we lived comfortably under sin’s rule. After Christ, a war begins. The Spirit awakens new desires, the flesh resists, and every believer experiences the tension between who we have become in Christ and what remains of our fallen nature.
The good news is that this chapter is not written to leave us discouraged but to point us to our Deliverer. Romans 7 teaches us that the answer to the war within is not stronger willpower or more religious rules—it is Jesus Christ. The One who justified us will also sustain us in the battle and ultimately grant us complete victory.
