Romans 8:1-4

Some promises in Scripture are so great that we struggle to believe them. Romans 8 begins with one of them: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” Paul’s declaration changes everything.
But how can Paul make such a confident statement? How can people who still struggle with sin be certain they will never be condemned? The answer is that our salvation does not rest on our ability to save ourselves. It rests on the completed work of the triune God.
The Father arranged our redemption by sending His Son. The Son accomplished our redemption by bearing our sin and condemning its power through His death. The Holy Spirit applies that redemption by setting us free from the law of sin and death and giving us the power to walk in the newness of life in the Spirit.
Remember, God did not ignore our sin or lower His righteous standard. He did what the law, weakened by our sinful flesh, could never do. He fulfilled the law. Therefore, those who are in Christ are never condemned, not because our performance is perfect, but because of God’s saving work.
