When should you and I expect the return of Jesus? Well, for me to say at any moment does not begin to express the joy and anticipation that I feel in my heart. Jesus is coming, and His reward is with Him. Think about it! We will trade the scum of this world for the indescribable goodness of heaven. Today could be the day! In that moment, the clock stops, and we start our eternity with the God of all creation in inexpressible joy. In an unanticipated flash, we will fully know His divine love’s warm and complete embrace. Think of it; we will be transformed for a new existence in the halls of glory. We will be changed from this mortality to heaven’s immortality forever more. Paul writes; “Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, [die] but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51–52)
Yet, there are times my life may not reflect that reality. Just like everyone else, I can become more mindful of, and/or worried about, worldly things. We can quickly lose focus on heavenly things. It is easy to do, and the reasons can be very personal, emotional, and unquestionably complex. However, we can give into the world’s shiny things, fears, or concerns. The Apostle John said; “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:15–17) Think about John’s ending in light of the context of what we are discussing. Are you about the will of God? Jesus is coming at any moment, and I hope He finds us all busy with kingdom business when He calls us to Himself in the clouds. Things are looking up, so be looking up.
